Over the years at the Limoges University Hospital, the clinical hematology and cell therapy department has developed supportive care to improve the quality of life of their patients: psychologists, sophrologists, socio-aesthetics, art therapists, hypno-analgesia. Hematology is a department where most patients are treated with chemotherapy for hematological malignancies. These treatments result in many side effects such as stress or chemo-induced nausea and vomiting. In 2019, a nurse, Joanna Maurière trained in clinical aromatherapy at the University of Dijon proposed adding this complementary approach to the service.
Dr. Remenieras and Dr. Gourin – Hematologists, Sophie Goutieras – Nurse Officer, Jean Toniolo- nurse and caregivers have joined Joanna to create the Aroma team. Their objective is to set up two inhalation aromasticks with essential oils: one to relieve nausea and another to reduce anxiety.
The Gattefossé Foundation grant will allow the development of this aromatherapy in the hematology department.
